Making work easier for medical staff : the work of ascaly, based in the basque country

Pierre Cosson, founder of Ascaly, started his project in Bordeaux in 2016. The platform was then officially launched in 2018. A digital company in the healthcare industry, its aim is to facilitate exchanges between medical employees, with healthcare establishments and operating room managers on one side, and equipment suppliers on the other. Thanks to this platform, medical equipment orders are digitized, easy and immediate.

Attracted by the major plus points the Basque Country has to offer and supported by BASQUE INVEST, the company has since set up a branch in Anglet. This second facility enables the company to develop and test new “no code” solutions. For example, Ascaly recently developed the “Astreinte” device, which was tested at the Aguilera clinic in Biarritz (Groupe Ramsay Santé) and launched in March 2023, with the aim of facilitating the management of on-call duty over a given period. The company is currently working on a tool to manage practitioner schedules at the clinic’s day hospital.

The healthcare and digital industry : an attractive sector in the basque country

From medical equipment and healthcare establishments to digital health start-ups, the Basque Country’s healthcare industry is one of excellence. With companies such as Sophia Genetics, Laboratoires Renaudin, Technoflex, DJO Global and B.Braun, the area boasts a robust healthcare ecosystem.

A number of clusters and mergers have been created in recent years to promote collaboration in this sector, which accounts for 15.5% of jobs in the Basque Country, according to a study carried out by the Bayonne CCI (Chamber of Commerce and Industry). One example is the Ramsay Santé group (which includes the Belharra clinic in Bayonne, the Aguilera clinic in Biarritz and the Jean le Bon clinic in Dax), which created Ginkgo Biloba – Living Lab Pays Basque.

Ascaly was thus able to expand when it set up in the Basque Country. It now benefits from the opportunity to test its solutions directly in Biarritz clinics, as close as possible to the needs of its users: healthcare establishments, surgeons, medical equipment suppliers and employees. This is an invaluable asset when it comes to upgrading its solutions and developing offers that perfectly match its customers’ expectations.

BASQUE INVEST'S support for Ascaly

Ascaly’s major challenge on arriving in the Basque Country was to understand the local ecosystem and find key skilled workers. BASQUE INVEST supported them in their search. François Applagnat-Tartet then put them in touch with the Ramsay Santé group and its Ginkgo Biloba nursery, which soon became a Living lab. François is the source of a number of valuable contacts with the Communauté d’agglomération du Pays Basque, the Nouvelle Aquitaine region and the Innovation Hub of the Ramsay Santé group, as well as various players in the healthcare sector in the Basque country, including the regional cluster ALLIS-NA (Alliance Innovation Santé Nouvelle-Aquitaine).

Ascaly’s move to the Basque Country was an opportunity to find solid skills and promising collaborations, and to be identified as a major player in the digital health sector. BASQUE INVEST is delighted to have been able to support them in this project and contribute to the success of their business development.
